Julie was born and bred in Burton, a true Burtonian. She was raised by her mother Carol (Constance) and her father Shamus (Jim) in Stanley street. She was eventually joined by her brother Paul and the family moved to Shakesphere road.
She attended Christchurch school and being a bright girl she passed the 11+ exam and moved to the Burton High school for girls. After leaving school she took several jobs the final one being as a clerk in the parts dept of a local motor sales company. She enjoyed this job until it was marred by the onset of epilepsy.
She would often accompany her mother and family friend Kevin to dart matches arranged by their local pub. It was here that she met her eventual husband Paul who had moved to Burton from Liverpool to take up a position at Allied Breweries Computer Centre as a programmer. Noticing a stranger in their midst she introduced herself so as to welcome him to the fold. A friendship grew which eventually led to marriage two years later in 1983 and they set up home in Eton Close a home she loved for several years. Her younger brother Paul married Allison shortly afterwards and they also moved into Eton Close which was a happy coincidence.
Julie accompanied Paul (husband) when he worked abroad visiting Saudi Arabia and living in the Netherlands for several years. She loved living in The Hague where she made several friends and her intention was to move there permanently but this never transpired. On returning to Burton they moved from Eton Close to Tutbury Road which was her home for the last 36 years.
Over this time Julie suffered several health problems but she handled them all with grace and bravery. In 1990 she was diagnosed with a tumour on her brain and life expectancy was doubtful. A ground breaking operation removed the tumour allowing Julie to live on and with a better standard of health. No more ‘grand mal’ seizures but seizures she could control.
In 2018 she suffered a stroke which affected the left side of her body. She fought this with her usual determination and within several months had the use of her arm and leg back. Little did she and Paul know that you never fully recover from a stroke. A year later she experienced several falls leading to hospitalization and operations. In 2021 the route cause was eventually found to be a weakness in her left leg from the stroke. During her final stay in hospital a liver infection was identified and the damage too severe to be operated on. With a prognosis of weeks of life arrangements were being made for a move to a hospice but a turn for the worse meant that she did not make the move. She passed away on 26th August.
Her husband Paul became her carer after the stroke and supported her up until her passing.
